This is the fresh Thai Lime, known in Thai as "Manao" (มะนาว). It is one of the most essential ingredients in Thai cuisine, prized for its sharp, tangy, and highly aromatic juice. It serves as the primary source of sourness that balances the salty, sweet, and spicy elements in countless Thai dishes. It is a key component in salad dressings (like for Green Papaya Salad), soups (like Tom Yum), dipping sauces (Nam Jim), and is often served as a wedge to be squeezed over dishes just before eating to add a final burst of bright, fresh flavor. Note: The term "Thai Lime" can sometimes also refer to the Kaffir Lime (Makrut), a different citrus with a bumpy, dark green rind.
